Give me magic, gadgets, monsters, zombies, everything that seems impossible, and throw in some tough chicks with swords. That's the stuff.

2012 Must Reads - YA

Hope the new year is treating you right. Seems about time to focus on some of the books coming out this year that I must get my hands on. It's a big list (and you know this is only a small part of it), and I wanted to include covers when possible, so I am splitting it between YA and Fantasy/UF reads. I included release dates, but we all know sometimes things change. Let me know what is on your Must-Read list.

Incarnate (Newsoul 1) by Jodi Meadows

This one looks very interesting, with a world where everyone is reincarnated, except for one girl... YA Dystopian/Fantasy?, new series, and a new author for me, out January 31

Forgiven (Demon Trappers 3) by Jana Oliver

After the wild ride at the end of book 2, I NEED to know what is happening next. YA UF, out Feb 3

The Nightmare Garden (Iron Codex 2) by Caitlin Kittredge

I loved The Iron Thorn - it was one of those books where I started it, and the next thing I knew, a couple of hours had gone by and I was at page 250. I got completely lost in it. I can't wait to read more about this strange world, Lovecraft, how to fix the mess the world is in t the end of book 1, and what is waiting for Aoife on the other side. YA, steampunk, out Feb 14.

A Beautiful Evil (Gods & Monsters 2) by Kelly Keaton

Mythology, vamps, mages, shifters in New Orleans. Had a lot of fun with book 1, has Violet, one of my favorite supporting characters. Expecting more good action as we explore more of New 2. YA UF, out February 21

Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard

Gothic, walking dead, I'm there. YA, out July 24

Ash Mistry and the Savage Fortress by Sarwat Chadda

New Mid School/YA series based on Indian mythology. I've been waiting for this one for awhile (Chadda's Billi Sangreal series is made of awesome). Out Fall 2012 in US (UK readers - it's out in March!).

Etiquette & Espionage by Gail Carriger

I think this is the new YA series set before the Alexia series in a finishing school. Out sometime in 2012.

[Edited to fix author's name. Doh - brain is still somewhere else. Also added new release timeframe for Ash Mistry.]
